James self-funded the limited-edition Rory McIlroy Grand Slam Rors Proto irons in Rory's exact specs and loved them as a collector's piece and ball-striking test, but they are tiny, unforgiving pure blades with no tech that almost nobody should actually game.

- +Surprisingly playable distance control, hit three greens in regulation in a row
- −Almost Ricky Fowler blade small and very unforgiving, you have to be an elite striker
- −No technology in the heads at all, just a lump of metal
- −Rory's specs (2 degrees upright, Project X 7.0 shafts) are far too stiff and upright for most, causing constant left misses
